A World XI is a football starting eleven made up of players considered among the best in their positions. Unlike a club lineup, a World XI can combine players from different clubs, countries and generations.
Building an all-time or modern World XI is subjective. A great team is not necessarily made by choosing the eleven players with the highest individual ratings. Formation, positional balance, defensive responsibility, creativity and the way players complement each other can all affect the final team.
That is why the Goat Arena builder lets you choose the formation and players yourself instead of automatically deciding your lineup for you.

Formation Guide
The best formation depends on the players available and the style you want your World XI to play. Here are some of the formations available in the builder.
A balanced formation with width from the wingers and three central midfielders controlling possession.
A flexible shape with two holding midfielders protecting the defense and an attacking midfielder behind the striker.
A classic system built around two forwards, two wide midfielders and a compact midfield.
Methodology
The player ratings shown in the World XI Builder are part of Goat Arena's own football database. They are designed to make player selection and comparison easier inside the tool.
Goalkeeper attributes include categories such as diving, handling, kicking, reflexes, speed and positioning. Outfield players use a different set of attributes appropriate to their positions.
These ratings are an editorial and interactive scoring system. They are not official EA FC, FIFA or other licensed game ratings, and they should not be interpreted as an official measurement of a player's ability.
Football ability is also difficult to reduce to a single number. A player's suitability for a particular World XI depends on position, tactical role, teammates and the style of football being built.
Squad Building
Goalkeepers need more than reflexes. Positioning, handling, diving and distribution can all influence how well a keeper fits a particular tactical system.
Defenders must balance defensive ability with the demands of the formation. Full-backs may need pace and attacking contribution, while centre-backs need positioning, physical strength and defensive reliability.
Midfield selection depends heavily on balance. A team may need a ball winner, a creative passer, a box-to-box player or a deeper controller depending on the formation.
Attackers can contribute in very different ways. Some provide finishing and movement while others create chances, stretch defenses or beat defenders one-on-one.
